Full page magazine ad for Jack Daniel's whiskey, created for my Graphic Design class. The Assignment was to learn to use Illustrator to create a photorealistic-style object, then create an advertisment for it. In hindsight, an unusual shaped bottle refracting lights through a translucent liquid was hardly the best thing to draw if you've never done this before... But I think that part turned out ok for my first attempt.
The advertisment was intended for a higher class of magazine than JD's would usually be associated with (NZ Metro Magazine) so I needed a concept that could combine JD's vintage identity with modernness. A modern lightbulb combines today's needs with the symbology of a good idea. The idiom of "how many x does it take to change a lightbulb" adds further familarity to the design.
feedback welcome as always.
Background texture from my school's stock archive. Lightbulb reference from wikimedia commons. Bottle reference from Flickr.
I had a fair amount of problems with it too. Often it tries to follow what it thinks is the contour of your shape, but instead just flings a mesh way out in the wrong direction. I actually found it was sometimes easier to make a mesh BEFORE sculpting a shape...
wow, a lot of things to keep in mind. I'm not one to understand how photoshop works, but I think you've definitely pulled off and outdone the requirements here. Did you make up the clever phrase yourself as well?
Actually, with the exception of some minor tweaks to the background texture, this was constructed entirely in Illustrator. The phrase and concept are my own. Thanks for the comments.
